Come, join us, on Thursday, December 21st. It begins at 6:30pm and is one of the most moving services of the year. (A note from Monsignor Jim is placed below next to the calendar for the week.)

On Adoring Adoration
by Deacon Pat Heffner

With the hustle and bustle of the holiday have you ever wondered how God must feel about our moving about here, there, and everywhere, all in “the name of the coming of our Lord”… Now I want you stop and think about adoration, wouldn’t this be a perfect time to really sit before the Lord…

Now, some would say, isn’t God everywhere? Can’t I talk to him in the car, out for a walk in nature, or at my desk at work? And that would be true and thank God! But, He did say at the Last Supper, over a piece of bread that was in his hands, “this is my body which is given up for you”.

Pope Francis recently said, “Immersing oneself in silent Eucharistic adoration is the secret to knowing the Lord.” One cannot truly know the Lord without being in the habit of adoring, of adoring in silence, or sitting with God for a time and allowing God to work with us and in us. Yes, the prayer of adoration is the least known among us, it is the one we engage in the least, and yet saves souls by the multitude!

Since I returned from my sabbatical in October, I’ve come to embrace Adoration every Thursday. And I must be truthful, it’s a real discipline, at least at first! We are not used to sitting quietly anymore in our world! But, now when I come to Adoration, I am recognizing Him as my King and my Lord, the One who I want to spend time with, as much as He wants to spend time with me! Imagine that! The Lord wants me!!!

This is where that peace that passes all understanding takes place, not to mention where enlightenment and miracles can occur. So, why then are not more of us there… No time for Jesus…

It reads in Matthew, “Couldn’t you keep watch for one hour?” he asked Peter. “Watch and pray so that you will not fall into temptation. The spirit is willing but the flesh is weak”

So, now back to this busy Christmas season, but if you truly want to experience Advent come and sit awhile with our Lord. The few faithful that come on Thursday sit stay for the entire hour, and some just for a few adoring minutes, but God is still there and adores you, too, for coming to Him.

Why not take a break in on your journey for a moment and remember why we are hustling about and for whom this season we prepare? why not come to Adoration, even if only for a brief few minutes and feel the presence of God in your life?

Blessed Advent!

Join us for The Longest Night
 by Monsignor Jim

Each year, we at Saint Miriam come together for a ‘Blue Christmas’ Service called, “The Longest Night”.

The holidays are tough for a lot of folks, and so we recognize that we need to be there for them by gathering together on the Winter Solstice, the longest night of the year with the least amount off daylight.

When my dad was dying, I began this service to bring me some sense of peace and solace. It was hard; terribly hard. When I lost my dad the next Christmas, this service became a way for me to stay sane, to cope, to live and breathe despite the fact that I wanted nothing else, but to lie down and give up. Somehow, God came in this simply beautiful and moving hour. Somehow God made me know God was still there. I pray the same for you. I pray you join us.

Come, join us, on Thursday, December 21st. It begins at 6:30pm and is one of the most moving services of the year.

There is snow in the forecast and so it is a good time to remind everyone about our snow and cancellation policy at Saint Miriam for the winter season! We will honor our Mass obligations on every day we have a Mass scheduled and will only cancel in the event of a declaration of a Snow Emergency by the County or State. If such an event occurs, we will post on our Master Calendar, located at our website, as well as on our Social Media pages that we are not holding services. Otherwise, we will be here for all who can travel to us safely. Please note that we handle our own snow removal so in the event of a heavy snow, please be mindful to arrive a little early, watch your footing, and if you have time pitch in too help us clear a way! Thank you!

End-of-Year Takes All of US!

Join us as we work to end this year debt free and on strong financial footing as a parish! It really is a ‘us’ project…here is why!

Why end of year giving is important?

Because it reduces your tax burden and allows Saint Miriam to pay off all vendor debt and move into 2018 with a clean slate.

Why is this important, too?

Many parties become overwhelmed by vendor debt and obligations and it causes them to close their doors. That is why since our founding some almost 10 years ago, Monsignor Jim does not allow us to move into a new year with existing obligations.

What Happens to Our End of Year Gifts?

We actually pay off vendors and move into a new year with only our mortgage and long term debt service! It has kept us healthy and growing every year! And, if you need proof it works…just look around you!

How does it help Us?

Your gift saves you tax obligations, AND helps us to meet our end of year financial goals. Your gift also reduces our need for a heavy stewardship appeal in the spring!

So, please give generously today by using this link or sending back your gift in the self address and stamped envelope that went out to your homes this week!

What better gift can you give to your parish than to help with an end-of-year gift!?

End-of-Year and US!
