🚫 No Hate at Saint Miriam!

Soon “Hate Has No Home Here!” signs will blanket the front edge of our entire front campus wall facing Bethlehem Pike! The hatred and rhetoric against religions, Muslims, immigrants, gays and lesbians, the transgender, refugees, journalists, as well as politics has become so volatile and hate-filled that we are taking a visible stand! Join us in this effort by supporting our parish as we are a place where hate is not welcome!

🌞 Blessing of the Seersucker Returns in June!

Join Saint Miriam as we continue an annual and ‘fun’ tradition on Sunday, June 25th. After the 10:30 Morning Mass, parishioners will be led out of the church and into the front garden for a service called, “Blessing of the Seersucker”! This brief service, with a uniquely Southern take on the “kirking” or blessing of the tartans, celebrated by Monsignor Jim’s former parish in Washington DC has made its way to Saint Miriam for some eight eight years now! While tartans may represent ancestral links with Britain, Saint Miriam makes seersucker representative its own clan, especially those who struggle through a hot summer! Help us welcome in summer, thank God for all we have, and for good weather and wonderful vacations by joining us on June 25th and enjoy a souther drink on the lawn with us, too! The first 12 for;ks who enter wearing something seersucker also take home a special gift so arrive early!

🏕 Summer Camp Begins June 12th!

Unlike many of the mega camps, we offer personalized attention for every child with low camper to staff ratios. We cater to preschool aged children and older – and welcome friends and siblings regardless of membership at our school or church.  Learn more here, the fun begins June 12th!

🎨 Bell Tower Gets It Coat of Paint in June, too!

Please welcome our own John Shoemaker back as he completes the exterior painting project from last year, but the highest point – our Bell Tower! The exterior louvers need a coat of paint to preserve them, and match the new trim and John will be 40′ high so watch your step and pray for the safety of all of our construction workers and volunteers! Painting work to begin the first week of June!

🏗 Rectory Construction Set to Begin Monday, June 5th!

The builder is ready! Please watch as soon construction will begin on our new Friary Rectory! Please give to this effort by Clicking Here, and receive your miniature bronze statue of St. Francis Joliet! Then, watch for the construction to begin as we become even better!

🚧 Rectory Construction Changes!

Our construction will be occurring from June – September and will cause us to lose the main Admin/School walkway for much of that time. Please watch signs and postings and also note that the Upper Road will be closed, too, when construction vehicles need to use the ‘construction staffing area’ to bring materials and lift them to the second level. As they say, please pardon our dust and any inconvenience as we build a new home!

🔔 Help Ring Our Bells!

We are seeking a few bell ringers to help during Sunday Masses! Contact us by Clicking Here or see anyone on staff today!

💸 Stewardship at Saint Miriam Ends This Week.

This Sunday we will close out ur annual appeal. To date, we have not met our needed goals and if we do not by next week, we will need to look at budget cuts, which could include staffing. As a parish, we try to not speak of money and finances except at two times every year. (1) is when our annual budget is up for review by you, as our parishioners. Your voice has direct impact in how we allocate the contributions you give. To date, we have been proven to be good stewards of every dollar and Monsignor has proven himself to grow a parish like no other. (2) is during our annual Stewardship Appeal, which occurs during Lent. We plan to close that Appeal the Sunday after Lent, but this year we have been unable as too many pledges are outstanding. Please review Monsignor Jim’s Letter in this week’s printed Focus, or online right here (SMPF Letterhead.Stewardship 2017),  and make your pledge this week by Clicking Here. No one deserves to wait this long, especially those who worry for us and keep the lights on! Is Saint Miriam not worth that effort today?

🎖Cemetery Ribbons for Memorial Day!

This year, join us on  Sunday, May 28th after the 10:30am Mass, when we will once again honor the fallen within our beautiful historic cemetery with donated and sponsored ribbons! Your ribbon will be tied by our PREP children to our new cemetery gates prior to the ceremony on May 28th following the 10:30am Mass. Suggested donation is only $10 or 3 for $20. (*Only 1 name per ribbon please!) We will honor their sacrifice by following a bag piper out of Mass that day and pray at the gates of cemetery, followed by taps of a bugler. Our own parish Historian, Robert Pardi, will once again shoot a volley and be in full historic uniform! A great opportunity to teach your children about the sacrifice of others! You don’t want to miss this one! Last year it was one of the most moving tributes we honored! You may complete a form after any Mass or join us by Clicking Here!

💒 Why I Give….

As we close our our annual Stewardship Appeal later next week, we will include some of the wonderful reasons folks support the mission of Saint Miriam! Here is one from this past week and you can, too, help us by Clicking Here

“Saint Miriam is such a loving, welcoming and accepting church and the people have become a blessing in my life. I finally have found my Church Family here at Saint Miriam .”
 – Pat L.

🙏🏼 Why Not Pray with Us?

As we grow as a community, we need more support and one way is to join us in praying for the needs of the parish, our community, your friends, family, and the world, too! Join our prayer list at Prayers@mySaintMiriam.organd also send your needs to us, too, so we might pray for you!

👨‍🏫 From Shaun to Sean!

Shaun Little has served at Director of Religious Education (DOE) for almost 7 years now and has brought our program to a new platform. He also helped us to lead our schools, including Zion Preschool at Saint Miriam, until we reorganized with our new school directors this past spring. But, as with all of us, the time has come for him to step back from his role as DOE. While you will still see him around the parish, we are pleased for his life of service and success and thank him earnestly for all he has selflessly done for our educational programming. So, please welcome Sean Hall as our new DOE for the coming year! The transition  from Shaun to Sean will not impact the ‘aural’ version of the Director, but we are revamping much of the program. Stay tuned and welcome in a renewed PREP/CCD program this fall!

💸 Stewardship, Money, You and Saint Miriam.

Did You Know We Live by a CovenantAt Saint Miriam, we honor all that we built by living and honoring The Saint Miriam Covenant. We do so because parishes thrive in a healthy atmosphere, and close down by being torn down by gossip. Our Covenant is located by Clicking Here as a refresher to those who desire to bring rumor and innuendo to the parish due to simple things that happen within all parishes, like our recent staff changes, or expansion. We remind you to read, live by, honor it. We also remind that our pastor has an open door policy and in the past 5 years only 4 parishioners have ever used to to ask questions and get fact. Emailhim here for your appointment, but if you feel talking in circles is helpful, there are other parishes that welcome that kind of destruction. We do not at Saint Miriam. We are better than that; so is our God and all that He has given to us by the sacrifice of the many who labor.

👑 May Crowning and Procession Coming on Sunday, May 7th!

We are getting ready to honor our Blessed Mother! Bring the kids and family and join us for the 10:30am Mass this Sunday when we process with Mary! Bring your prayers and get ready for a beautiful May Day! Help us to continue a beautiful tradition this coming Sunday!

💵 And Don’t Forget to Bring Your Mary Money?!

The Procession for Our Blessed Mother is rooted in the Italian-American Religious Festival that our pastor, Monsignor Jim, grew up with in “Little Italy”! A large  Statue of Mary is carried out of Saint Miriam and placed on a beautifully decorated cart. Little girls carry flowers, or hold ribbons dangling from the statue, and our youngest of boys and men to help, will move the wooden cart through the campus where the faithful pin money. In Father’s day as a young boy, the statue went for blocks around the church’s neighborhood and the faithful painted their curbs white and blue in honor of the Blessed Mother! Then, for an offering to help the parish, the priest blessed every home as he passed by! In days past, the priests of national parishes (those defied by a specific ethnic heritage like German, or Polish, etc.) soon realized that such practices were a valuable resource. If parishioners did not fill the collection plate, they made up for it by lighting candies in the chapels, and the church, which sponsored processions, could reap their harvest of donations and create enthusiasm, too! So, we continue this beautiful tradition on Sunday! Bring some loose bills, say a prayer to Mary as you pin the donation to her flowing ribbons,  and watch us we grow with excitement and keep an old tradition alive and well!

Email him here for your appointment, but if you feel talking in circles is helpful, there are other parishes that welcome that kind of destruction. We do not at Saint Miriam. We are better than that; so is our God and all that He has given to us by the sacrifice of the many who labor.
