Sponsor a Piece of Rectory Furniture Today: A note from Monsignor…

Dear Friends and Fellow Parishioners:

We have put together a list of furnishings needed and are seeking those who wish to sponsor a piece of furniture to prevent me from a large personal expense on my credit. Many do not remember, but when we purchased this property, we were short for the closing so I sold my condo in Philadelphia to make up the $80,000 shortfall; that included all of the furnishings, too, for a quick closing on the sale. I literally have a few pieces of artwork and some linens left to my name. To be honest, everything I own is in the RV that I have called home for almost 3 years now. I sacrificed to make this dream possible. I need your help to get us over the finish line. Please donate to the Friary or sponsor a furniture piece today. Thank you for listening.

In Hope,

Father Jim

In light of recent world events, it is more vital than ever to promote understanding and cooperation among different religions. We will host an interfaith event on Sunday, October 1st after the 10:30am Morning Mass right here at Saint Miriam! This program will present four speakers representing the traditions of Christianity, Judaism, and Islam. Each speaker will focus on the shared values of forgiveness and hospitality within their religious scriptures and traditions. What we have in common is far greater than what divides us! An interactive afternoon with Rev. Linnea Clark Pastor at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Dr. Ruth Sandberg, Leonard and Ethel Landau Professor of Rabbinics, and Director, Certificate in Jewish-Christian Studies at Gratz College, Dr. Usame Tunagar, Assistant Professor of Communication, Cabrini University, and Monsignor Jim St. George, Pastor at Saint Miriam. Each speaker will speak for about 20 minutes about how these two values are reflected in their Scriptures and in their religious tradition to demonstrate that all three religions are not what you see on the evening news, but have a long history of shared beliefs and values. Join us!

Adoration and Benediction of the Blessed Sacrament Begins this September, too!

Join us every Thursday from 5:30pm – 6:30pm when the Blessed Sacrament is exposed for Adoration in the Sanctuary, as we have done for the past year. However, beginning this fall, we will begin with Benediction promptly at 5:30pm! Exposition and Benediction of the Blessed Sacrament highlights what we believe as Catholics, the fundamental mystery of the Holy Eucharist: that our Lord is truly present, body and blood, soul and divinity in the Blessed Sacrament. The ritual for Benediction is when the priest places the Blessed Sacrament in a monstrance on the altar for adoration. At this time, a hymn of praise is offered as the priest incenses the Blessed Sacrament. During the period of adoration, the faithful whom are gathered may pray in quiet and foster a deeper spiritual communion with the Lord. We also have a new Benediction booklet for you to use! The start of Benediction begins promptly at 5:30pm, following Rosary, for those who are present early! The entire Benediction will last approximately ten minutes and then the balance of the hour will be for personal Adoration! A beautiful way to honor the Lord, always and truly Present! Join us and come sit with our Lord every Thursday!

Ordinary Time,
Extraordinary God!

We, as a church, have returned to Ordinary Time! Because the term ordinary in English most often means something that’s not special or distinctive, many people think that Ordinary Time refers to parts of the calendar of the Catholic Church that are unimportant. It should be noted that the season of Ordinary Time makes up most of our Liturgical Year and refers to those periods that fall outside of the major liturgical seasons, yet Ordinary Time is far from unimportant or uninteresting! Ordinary Time is called “ordinary” not because it is common, but simply because the weeks of Ordinary Time are numbered. The Latin word ordinalis, which refers to numbers in a series, stems from the Latin word ordo, from which we get the English word order. Thus, the numbered weeks of Ordinary Time in fact represent the ordered life of the Church, or the period in which we live our lives neither in feasting (as in the Christmas and Easter seasons) or in more severe penance (as in Advent and Lent), but in watchfulness and expectation of the Second Coming of Christ. Likewise, the normal liturgical color for Ordinary Time is green and soon the vestments and altar cloths will bear the color! It is in this glorious time we learn of the works of our Lord! Come and meet an extraordinary God in this wonderful Ordinary time!

🙏🏼 Adoration and Benediction of the Blessed Sacrament Begins this September, too!

Pope Francis’ Laudato Si Comes to Saint Miriam!

As the care for God’s earth and our environment have become politically charged issues of late, we decided that as a parish community, with a strong “Green Policy” and emphasis on reducing our carbon footprint, we should engage this issues together and see what insights God brings to us. Therefore, beginning this September, we will form a small group with a desire to engage Pope Francis’ Encyclical, Laudato Si, (Medieval Central Italian for “Praise be to you”) on the call of every Christian to care for God’s world. With so much information and conversation, often based on misinformation or hijacked fact, we felt this a great opportunity to engage, grow, and support one another in developing our human role to be co-creators with God and within creation. We will provide the books, you provide the willingness to grow! Contact us today and we will begin our journey this fall with respectful sharing, dialogue, and growth! We will also be bringing in many elements to honor this group and discussion including Altar Candles, Paschal Candle, Saint Miriam Water Bottles, and much more! This will be a very exciting group to be part of!

New Photo Directory Comes to Saint Miriam!

Saint Miriam Parish is growing and we want to make sure that we know and stay in touch with our parishioners. So, we have begun to work on updating our parish database, called ParishSoft, to assure that we have the necessary information for each of you. The updated database will be helpful to our priests in the event of a pastoral emergency, asa it will give them access to your contact information. AND, the exciting part is that with your permission, we are also creating a directory which will include a photo of and/or your family! Learn more by Clicking Here today!

First, why not think about purchasing a brick that will help in the building of a new pathway to our Saint Miriam Summer Playground area and forever create a legacy on our campus! For every donation of $100.00 to The Saint Miriam Fund receive a 4 x 8 Personalized Brick! (Special Size of 8 x 8 is Available for a Donation Amount of $250.00). Learn more about our needed bricks by Clicking Here!

Secondly, you may also Sponsor a Child directly now! When you sponsor a child, you create a special relationship between you, a child in need, the community of Saint Miriam, and our team of caring professionals! Together, we are helping to change the future for children through a quality and affordable private education! For just $29 a month, or a one-time donation of only $350, you can provide essential aid and education to improve the well-being of every child that comes to our doors! And, because we actually feed our children during the school day, your donation not only helps give them a good education, you fill their bellies with wholesome food, too! It gives you the opportunity to witness young lives transformed for the future right here in Montgomery County! Learn more here.

The Feast of the Transfiguration of the Lord

All three Synoptic Gospels tell the story of the Transfiguration and with remarkable agreement! All three place the event shortly after Peter’s confession of faith that Jesus is the Messiah and Jesus’ first prediction of his passion and death. Peter’s eagerness to erect tents or booths on the spot suggests it occurred during the week-long Jewish Feast of Booths in the fall.

The Transfiguration of Jesus is an event reported in the New Testament when Jesus is transfigured and becomes radiant in glory upon a mountain. … On the mountain, Jesus begins to shine with bright rays of light. Then the prophets Moses and Elijah appear next to him and he speaks with them.

The Feast of the Transfiguration of Our Lord recalls the revelation of Christ’s glory on Mount Tabor in the presence of three of His disciples, Peter, James, and John. How will he be revealed in you this week?
