Saint Miriam in Brief: A Quick Look!

( 👓 To read our full list of current events for this week,  visit Focus in Brief ,  by Clicking Here!)

Today we honor the combined Feasts of …

The Solemnity of All Saints (All Saints’),
and
The Commemoration of All the Faithful Departed (All Souls’)!

🙇🏼 …and there’s Still Time!  Be Sure to Honor All Saints’ and All Souls’ 2016! Praying for the living and the dead has always been a part of Catholic tradition and at Saint Miriam we will honor these very important feast days with the lighting of special candles! First, we will offer stunningly beautiful votive lights hanging from a large, simple branch over our Altar tended from our own wooded grounds at the edge of our cemetery. Then, on the evening of All Souls, at 6pm sharp, our cemetery will set aglow with the light of votive candles within beautiful star luminaries! Parishioners and the general public are invited!Purchase a luminary for your own remembrances, and why not consider adding a few extra so we can add a light to a grave of someone in our cemetery that no longer has anyone left to remember them? What an absolutely beautiful way to honor both the living (Saints) and the dead (souls) at Saint Miriam this All Saints’ and All Souls’ Day for 2016!  You may still make a memorial or honor online!

🎬 Filming us as a Success Story! Mitsubishi Electric was at the parish to film on Thursday afternoon for what they titled a “Success Story” that features Saint Miriam and Wes Carver Electric! Their video marketing staff member, Ken Brown, flew in from Atlanta for this shoot and it will be featured nationally in their television commercials! Watch for its release nationwide this fall! Saint Miriam…a true success!

A GREAT Success! The Haunted and Historic Tour! Our first annual Saint Miriam classic All Hallow’s Eve flashlight tour was a huge success! Thank you to all who came and hosted the hundreds of folks over two days! A big thank you to Robert Pardi, our Historian, Dr. Shaun Little, Pat Wilcke, and Michael Gabriele, David Olson, Alan Entwistle, Kathleen Duncan, and Chester Mack for all their effort in making this event a success!

If You Missed the Historic Cemetery Tour…You’re in luck! Our parish historian, Robert Pardi, is making himself available after the 9:00am Family Mass every month on the Second Sunday to take you and your family on a guided tour! Join him and enrich yourself in the history that Saint Miriam now has become good stewards of!

Construction Is Done, But a Few More Upgrades in Store! Our newly installed security protocol and entry system is now operational! After we discovered a flaw in our security protocol for our schools, we built a new wall and emergency door! This has now reconfigured the entry and visitor systems at our Admin/School Entrance with the creation of a ‘reception area’ that also includes a new way to check in every child and visitor prior to being permitted to go beyond the entry! And, today, thanks to our own Tom Frey, we are getting new urinals in the men’s restroom and new toilets in the ladies’ restroom! Thanks to all!

Join God Every Thursday? Every Thursday from 5:00pm – 6:00pm, the Blessed Sacrament will be exposed for adoration in the Sanctuary before our Thursday Mass at 6:00pm! Understood simply, Eucharistic Adoration is adoring or honoring the Eucharistic Presence of Christ. In a deeper sense, it involves “the contemplation of the Mystery of Christ truly present before us”.  During Eucharistic Adoration, we “watch and wait”, we remain “silent” in His Presence and open ourselves to His Graces which flow from the Eucharist … By worshiping the Eucharistic Jesus, we become what God wants us to be! Like a magnet, The Lord draws us to Himself and gently transforms us. Join us every Thursday! Need 24 good reasons to come? Read this article!

But, with his schedule ever increasing, he has not been able to take on the additional course work at the university he normally teaches at in the fall and spring terms; it simply will not fit into his parish schedule, and so he once again has made a sacrifice and declined the offer to teach this fall. This leaves him in a terribly tight financial position and quite honestly…is our problem to deal with now!  Monsignor has come to us and requested a salary of $25,000 (Yes, he asked for only $25,000 for all he does and the very long hours he works). Will you help us to afford this needed option by giving a weekly or monthly donation ear marked just for him? Please prayerfully consider our request and see Alan today, or just complete the special insert this Sunday and return it to us today….if you are willing to put our pastor first this fall.  Email us to support today.

Help Our Children in 2016: Sponsor a Child Today! We now have 7 Sponsors so far! There are many ways to help our children become better adults and Christians, as well as better practicing Catholics, and this year we offer two wonderful means to bring a smile – and a little support – right to our school! First, why not think about purchasing a brick that will help in the building of a new pathway to our Saint Miriam Summer Playground area and forever create a legacy on our campus! For every donation of $100.00 to The Saint Miriam Fund receive a 4 x 8 Personalized Brick! (Special Size of 8 x 8 is Available for a Donation Amount of $250.00). Learn more about our needed bricks by Clicking Here! Or, you may also sponsor a child directly now! When you sponsor a child, you create a special relationship between you, a child in need, the community of Saint Miriam, and our team of caring professionals! Together, we are helping to change the future for children through a quality and affordable private education! For just $29 a month, or a one-time donation of only $350, you can provide essential aid and education to improve the well-being of every child that comes to our doors! And, because we actually feed our children during the school day, your donation not only helps give them a good education, you fill their bellies with wholesome food, too! It gives you the opportunity to witness young lives transformed for the future right here in Montgomery County! Learn more here.

Saint Miriam in Brief: A Quick Look!

(📖 To read our full list of current events for this week,  visit Focus in Brief,  by Clicking Here!)

Today we Honor…The Thirtieth Sunday in Ordinary Time!

🙇🏼 Youth Mass is Sunday! Our annual Youth Mass will take place this Sunday, October 23rd at the 9:00am Family Mass.  Each PREP child will have some role in the Mass.  All children, including the PREPlay children will be invited to sing after Communion in front of the altar.  Please plan on arriving by 8:40am so that we can have a brief practice (PREPlay children can arrive at their normal time).  As the children will be part of the mass, their attire should be “dress casual.”

😶 This Year’s Auction Is Going to Be GREAT! Remember to look ahead as our Annual Silent Auction is coming up on Friday, November 18th with an auction preview at 6:00pm and includes a wine and cheese and wonderful homemade desserts, too! This year’s items include vacations to Disney and Arizona, 7 night cruise for two on the Rhine River, condo vacations, timeshares, a trip to Cabo San Lucas, gift baskets, center pieces, gift certificates, so much more! Plan to join us!

📚 Need a Good Book to Read? Check Out Our Wonderful Library! Our books are now on Goodreads and broken down by category. Check out our Goodreads page today! Want to check out a book? Just write your name, email address, and date on the sign out card located in the back of each book and place it in the checkout card holder. Books can be checked out for 30 days. If you’d like to make a book donation to the library or have any questions, email our Librarian, Peggy Gabriele by Clicking Here.

🎟Get Your Lottery Tickets In! Don’t forget to turn in your lottery tickets for our new fundraiser that helps our school keep our tuition affordable and offer the finest in quality, private education by partnering with fine folks just like you, as well as give you a chance to win some real money! Tickets are good for the entire months of November and December and for just a $20 ticket you have over 60 chances to win almost $4,000 in total prizes! Ticket stubs need to be returned by October 31st.

👷🏼Construction Set to Begin!  We discovered a flaw in our security protocol for our schools and so we are building a wall! Well, it is actually a reconfiguring of the entry system at our Admin/School Entrance and the creation of a ‘reception area’ that will also include a new way to check in every child and visitor prior to being permitted to go beyond the entry! Please be mindful that construction will begin Friday, October 28th and will be completed that weekend. Use the handicap church entry doors during this time. If you can help – even if only to paint or spackle, please let Alan know today!

🕯🕯🕯🕯Advent Reflections Booklet Available! Believe it or not, it is almost Advent! And, annually, we help prepare you spiritually for the coming of Christ with a popular, easy-to-use annual booklet called Advent & Christmas: Waiting in Joyful Hope! During the especially busy Advent and Christmas seasons, this booklet offers brief, down-to-earth reflections that bring prayer and Scripture into everyday life in a thought-provoking and lasting way. This year’s reflections are by Bishop Robert Morneau and provide deeply insightful reflections on Scripture readings from the daily Mass, and every reader will grow in their understanding of the word of God. This book will help busy people achieve their goal of enriching their personal prayer life during the seasons of Advent and Christmas. Please contact Deacon Pat to secure your copy before they – like Advent – is well past us by Clicking Here!

🔔Quasimodo, Where Are You? Please help us ring our historic church bell at all Masses on Sundays! We toll our bell at 30 min before, 15 before, and at time of start. Maybe you’d like to help learn how to ring our bell? See anyone on staff or email us by Clicking Here!

🎃Our Pumpkin Patch is Open Everyday through the 31st of October! Our annual Pumpkin Patch is open daily from sunrise to sunset! Stop by the campus, pick up a pumpkin, and support our kids! This year’s crop (of students and pumpkins!) is simply grand!

🕸🕷Join us for a Haunted and Historic Tour! Join Union Cemetery of Whitemarsh at Saint Miriam for a classic All Hallow’s Eve flashlight tour that includes an exciting tour of our century grounds and a walk through the pumpkin patch. Experience the enchanting art and landscape of our cemetery grounds after dark, as an experienced tour guide leads you along winding, dimly-lit pathways and behind the graves of historic figures that include: Harvey Longabaugh, the brother of the Sundance Kid; Thomas May Peirce, founder of Peirce College; the Van Billiard Family who perished on the Titanic;  and George Jago, a Civil War soldier as well as many  other Civil and Revolutionary War veterans.  The nighttime walking tours will focus on the cemetery’s rich history, and of course, some of the liveliest spirits buried within our hallowed grounds, after all, Union Cemetery is on the Haunted Places in Pennsylvania list! Tours will last approximately 30-45 minutes, and will be followed by seasonal refreshments aside blazing fire pits near our pumpkin patch.  Two evenings of the All Hallow’s Eve Walking Tour: Haunted History at Union CemeteryFriday, October 28th and Saturday, October 29th. Each night, tours will begin at 7PM. Attendees are advised to wear comfortable clothes and shoes, and to bring a flashlight.

🕯Honoring All Saints’ and All Souls’ 2016! Forms are available after every Mass beginning this Sunday through the end of October!

We gather to share what we call a “sacred meal”, a worship service that takes place around an actual dinner table in the parish fellowship hall. The meal is patterned after those shared by Christians in the first few centuries of the church, which evolved into our current day “Holy Communion” celebrations with participants sharing the bread and the cup. Learn more Here and wait until you see what we did this time! Join us!

🏁 This Year’s Auction Needs You! Help us get ready for our annual silent auction! We are in need of craft type items such as fall/Christmas wreathes, center pieces, table-top trees, ceramics, ornaments, wall décor, and/or signs. These items can either be store bought or hand made. All items should be brought to the church by  Sunday, October 16. See Kathleen Duncan or Shaun Little for additional information or email us by Clicking Here.

If you have received them, please be sure to return the money and the stubs by October 30th. Without them you won’t have a chance to win. Good luck and thank you for helping to support our school!

Norwex shares the mission of Saint Miriam to care for our community and reduce our carbon footprint. Proceeds from the sales will be donated to Saint Miriam. Now, by Clicking Here, you can help heal the world and support the parish, too!

🍽 Shallow Sign Ups Means Cancellation is Looming! Sign up Today or We May Not Make It!  If you wish too join a Foyer Group, please do so – otherwise, we may cancel the groups if there is a lack of interest this year. Then, plan ahead and join us on Friday, October 21st at 6:30pm for our annual Foyer Dinner Kick Off Dinner! This year’s theme will be All Hallow’s Eve.…Boo! Beginning every October and meeting through May, our Saint Miriam Foyer Dinner Groups afford a unique opportunity to dine together and grow as a community! We begin with a kick off dinner on October 21st  – hosted by our own pastor – and group members are randomly assigned by our coordinator! Foyer Groups are small groups of 5-8 persons sharing simple meals and fellowship and the intention is to simply to have fun.  A ‘Group Captain’ can be chosen to schedule, and then each month, one or two of the members host a gathering. They convene the group and welcome all into their home and provide one or two main dishes to share. Then everyone else brings something, too! It’s that simple and that much fun! There is no agenda, just fellowship and building a great community!

Forms are available after every Mass beginning this Sunday through the end of October!

💒 Join Us Show Your Love for Our Pastor? You can now track our progress toward our goal with the poster in the Bell Tower Lobby! A few weeks ago we asked for your support in building a pastor’s salary fund. Monsignor has worked for us for almost nine years now and has given much to help us remain a vibrant and growing parish.
