How Well Did We Do This Easter?  Why not read these lovely remarks from our own Donna Mitchell:

Good morning, Your Excellency!

I had to write to you this morning to give you a piece of my mind!

First of all, kudos to you and the ministry team for the most beautiful Holy Week observances! Each day, reading, and activity was heartfelt and so very meaningful. It is one of the reasons Mom and I are part of Saint Miriam’s family today!

I know this one was particularly difficult for you on so many levels: the grief of losing your Dad and Art, Fr. Joe’s illness and Mother Dorothy’s leave…we know and appreciate how hard you work. Thank you!

I have to tell you that I have NEVER felt so much joy at Easter Mass as I felt yesterday. I was brimming with joy. I looked around at our Church Family during Mass and saw the families, the couples, the children, our friends, and I was overcome with emotion. I thought I was going to burst into tears of joy!

Thank you for welcoming us and always making us feel that we are HOME! Thank you for giving us a place to worship and show our love for one another and our world! Thank you for making us aware of our “Easter Heart”!!!

I am truly and phenomenally blessed to be a part of this family and to call you Pastor and friend!

I love you to the moon and back!!!

Namaste,
Donna

Do We Give Well?  Our prayer and fasting also are linked to almsgiving in a meaningful way. Pope Benedict once said “By freely embracing an act of self-denial, we make a statement that our brother or sister in need is not a stranger.” When we turn from our own wants and desires, we can more clearly see our existing blessings and the need to share with our fellow pilgrims in the spiritual journey. We can practice almsgiving in many forms. Many parishes, like Saint Miriam, have programs to assist the needy; we adjust our priorities in order to insure our ministries are sufficiently funded to provide adequate help. The history of our faith provides abundant examples of how sacrifices, eagerly embraced, can provide untold enhancements to our spiritual life. Even if you have not yet adopted some giving disciplines, it’s not too late. You can begin today, just Click Here! Remember the words of Joseph Wirthlin, “Without prayer, fasting is not complete fasting; it’s simply going hungry.”

Saying Farewell to Art. We bid a fond farewell to Art Powell this week. He was a bright spot in our days and we will miss him very much. But, we are an Easter People and so we sing with his song of joy…Alleluia! A Funeral Mass is on Friday at 10:00am.

Then, following class, all of the children will participate along with the congregation in the Grand Palm Procession and attend the 10:30am Mass! While all families are encouraged to attend with their children, this is required of all First Holy Communion and Confirmation students. Thank you.

Get Your Easter Flowers- ENDS TODAY! Please support the parish by a Memorial or Honor donation toward our Easter Flowers! Please see anyone on staff today, or pick up a form here or in the Fellowship Hall or Information Center today!

Passion Week. Please join us for the Easter Triduum this year that includes Holy Thursday (7pm), Good Friday (3pm), and The Great Vigil of Easter (7pm). Then attend Easter Sunday Mass at 10:30am. This year, we have a brand new way to bring the Gospel and Passion to life! Download a flyer now! More next week…for now, please begin to plan and allow us to journey with you through the most sacred of weeks in the Christian Calendar.

Do We Pray Well?  Our prayer and fasting also are linked to almsgiving in a meaningful way. Pope Benedict once said “By freely embracing an act of self-denial, we make a statement that our brother or sister in need is not a stranger.” When we turn from our own wants and desires, we can more clearly see our existing blessings and the need to share with our fellow pilgrims in the spiritual journey. We can practice almsgiving in many forms. A most effective method is to consider the Catholic principle of subsidiarity—that it is best to address any problem at the local level if possible. Even if we have not yet adopted some Lenten disciplines, it’s not too late. That is what our Dollar and Dime Challenge has been all about; to teach us how to trust God. Not signed up to help the parish yet? Easter is a wonderful time to care. You can begin today, just Click Here! Remember the words of Joseph Wirthlin, “Without prayer, fasting is not complete fasting; it’s simply going hungry.”

Obviously, changes do occur, but a feature that will help those who have a favorite to plan better.  Saint Miriam…always thinking of you, our parishioners!

Letters to the Pontiff! Please write a letter to Pope Francis and ask him to visit us at Saint Miriam? Your letters will be combined with those from the children in our PREP classes. Pope Francis has expressed a strong desire that all Catholics work together and has recently written about it and even met with our Presiding Archbishop of the Communion of Old Catholics. This trip should not be about how much money we can make from his papal visit, but rather what bridges can we build…Please see Shaun Little.
