Please watch as we begin renovations to our Union Cemetery of Whitemarsh at Cemetery! The Cemetery Trust, Cemetery Board, and Parish Board have developed a plan in coordination with our pastor to bring about a beautiful new St. Francis of Assisi Green Memorial Section  this summer! The plans include a beautiful new state of life-sized bronze St. Francis, a newly defined grave section, plantings and leveling, lighting, hand forged iron gates at the entry and exit, signage, and much more! Watch as we unveil and plan a dedication for mid to late summer 2016! Early purchases – with deep discounts – will be available to parishioners of Saint Miriam shortly after we begin so stay tuned! And join as we dedicate the new gates with ribbons by our children! Donate today! Each ribbon will bear the name of someone you love: if a veteran choose red or blue, if civilian please choose white. The dedication will take place after the 11:00am Morning Mass on May 22nd.
🇺🇸 Flag Placement and Honor Volley for Memorial Day!
On Sunday, May 22, 2016 following the 11:00am Morning Mass, a beautiful and meaningful ceremony will also take place to dedicate the new gates for the Union Cemetery of Whitemarsh at Saint Miriam  Parish. At this time, flags will be placed on the graves of the veterans. The parish historian, Robert Pardi, will be leading the placement of the flags. Mr. Pardi is a member of the 71st Pennsylvania Volunteer reenacting group. The military part of this group represents soldiers, as they lived during the 1860s, from the campsite to the field of battle. During the ceremony, Mr. Pardi will be wearing the uniform of the 71st as he conducts an honor volley with his rifle in honor of the veterans buried at Union. Plan to join us for this once-in-a-lifetime event!
🌞 Blessing of Seersucker is Back in June!
Many may be familiar with the tradition of the “Kirking of the Tartans” held in many Presbyterian and Episcopal Churches. “Kirk” is the old Scottish Gaelic word for church, and so the Kirking of the Tartans is a blessing of the fabric and colors that so much represent various clans, families, and cultures. But we don’t wear much tartan, especially not during the summer! Seersucker, on the other hand, sometimes seems like the unofficial fabric of our clan and tribe—especially as we struggle through the summer humidity!  This year, after the 11:00am Morning Mass on Sunday, June 12th, Saint Miriam is offering its annual Blessing of the Seersucker! Wear an item of seersucker (or other spring clothing) and join in the fun and be warned…Monsignor will be clad in his finest seersucker suit!
🐶🐱 A Place for Pets to Rest…
Union Cemetery and Saint Miriam are pleased to announce the creation of a brand  new pet cemetery section  toward the front of our campus at Bethlehem Pike. It will be called, “Angels of Assisi Pet Memorial Garden”  and is expected to be ready by mid-summer! What would a Franciscan parish be without our honoring of our beloved pets? Join us in support by making a donation to this wonderful dream by Clicking Here! (Please mark your donation as ‘other – pets’)
