Now, some would say, isn’t God everywhere? Can’t I talk to him in the car, out for a walk in nature, or at my desk at work? And that would be true and thank God! But, He did say at the Last Supper, over a piece of bread that was in his hands, “this is my body which is given up for you”.
Pope Francis recently said, “Immersing oneself in silent Eucharistic adoration is the secret to knowing the Lord.” One cannot truly know the Lord without being in the habit of adoring, of adoring in silence, or sitting with God for a time and allowing God to work with us and in us. Yes, the prayer of adoration is the least known among us, it is the one we engage in the least, and yet saves souls by the multitude!
Since I returned from my sabbatical in October, I’ve come to embrace Adoration every Thursday. And I must be truthful, it’s a real discipline, at least at first! We are not used to sitting quietly anymore in our world! But, now when I come to Adoration, I am recognizing Him as my King and my Lord, the One who I want to spend time with, as much as He wants to spend time with me! Imagine that! The Lord wants me!!!
This is where that peace that passes all understanding takes place, not to mention where enlightenment and miracles can occur. So, why then are not more of us there… No time for Jesus…
It reads in Matthew, “Couldn’t you keep watch for one hour?” he asked Peter. “Watch and pray so that you will not fall into temptation. The spirit is willing but the flesh is weak”
So, now back to this busy Christmas season, but if you truly want to experience Advent come and sit awhile with our Lord. The few faithful that come on Thursday sit stay for the entire hour, and some just for a few adoring minutes, but God is still there and adores you, too, for coming to Him.
Why not take a break in on your journey for a moment and remember why we are hustling about and for whom this season we prepare? why not come to Adoration, even if only for a brief few minutes and feel the presence of God in your life?
