Join Saint Miriam as we continue an annual and ‘fun’ tradition on Sunday, June 25th. After the 10:30 Morning Mass, parishioners will be led out of the church and into the front garden for a service called, “Blessing of the Seersucker”! This brief service, with a uniquely Southern take on the “kirking” or blessing of the tartans, celebrated by Monsignor Jim’s former parish in Washington DC has made its way to Saint Miriam for some eight eight years now! While tartans may represent ancestral links with Britain, Saint Miriam makes seersucker representative its own clan, especially those who struggle through a hot summer! Help us welcome in summer, thank God for all we have, and for good weather and wonderful vacations by joining us on June 25th and enjoy a souther drink on the lawn with us, too! The first 12 for;ks who enter wearing something seersucker also take home a special gift so arrive early!

Saint Miriam Parish is growing and we want to make sure that we know and stay in touch with our parishioners. So, we are working on updating our parish database called ParishSoft to ensure that we have the necessary information for each of you. The updated database will be helpful to our priests in the event of a pastoral emergency it will give them access to your contact information. And, with your approval only, we can create a directory that will include your photo, but not your personal information. Therefore, we are requesting that each of parishioner send a photo (you and your family members; photos of your children are optional.) We would also like you to include the following information for each member of your family:

🎂 Welcome Father John this coming Sunday!
The Procession for Our Blessed Mother is rooted in the Italian-American Religious Festival that our pastor, Monsignor Jim, grew up with in “Little Italy”! A large Statue of Mary is carried out of Saint Miriam and placed on a beautifully decorated cart. Little girls carry flowers, or hold ribbons dangling from the statue, and our youngest of boys and men to help, will move the wooden cart through the campus where the faithful pin money. In Father’s day as a young boy, the statue went for blocks around the church’s neighborhood and the faithful painted their curbs white and blue in honor of the Blessed Mother! Then, for an offering to help the parish, the priest blessed every home as he passed by! In days past, the priests of national parishes (those defied by a specific ethnic heritage like German, or Polish, etc.) soon realized that such practices were a valuable resource. If parishioners did not fill the collection plate, they made up for it by lighting candies in the chapels, and the church, which sponsored processions, could reap their harvest of donations and create enthusiasm, too! So, we continue this beautiful tradition on Sunday! Bring some loose bills, say a prayer to Mary as you pin the donation to her flowing ribbons, and watch us we grow with excitement and keep an old tradition alive and well!
