October 1st!
Interfaith Event This Coming Sunday at Saint Miriam!
In light of recent world events, it is more vital than ever to promote understanding and cooperation among different religions. We will host an interfaith event on Sunday, October 1st after the 10:30am Morning Mass right here at Saint Miriam! This program will present four speakers representing the traditions of Christianity, Judaism, and Islam. Each speaker will focus on the shared values of forgiveness and hospitality within their religious scriptures and traditions. What we have in common is far greater than what divides us! An interactive afternoon with Rev. Linnea Clark Pastor at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Dr. Ruth Sandberg, Leonard and Ethel Landau Professor of Rabbinics, and Director, Certificate in Jewish-Christian Studies at Gratz College, Dr. Usame Tunagar, Assistant Professor of Communication, Cabrini University, and Monsignor Jim St. George, Pastor at Saint Miriam. Each speaker will speak for about 20 minutes about how these two values are reflected in their Scriptures and in their religious tradition to demonstrate that all three religions are not what you see on the evening news, but have a long history of shared beliefs and values. Join us!

Then, they will go upstairs to the Friary and eat pizza with our priests and friars! Just one more way this year of PREP is fantastic! (or, is it fran-tastic?!)

Current News!
🇵🇷 On Your Behalf, Saint Miriam Helps the People of Puerto Rico!
Hurricane Maria tore across Puerto Rico on September 20th, and days later, news out of the U.S. territory is still frustratingly difficult to come by. One thing we know, they are in the greatest need of all. The death toll is rising and the food and water is declining. We decided to help by making our dollars go to where greatest impact would be felt immediately, and we chose to send our dollars to San Juan’s celebrated chef, Chef Jose Enrique, of Chefs for Puerto Rico, who has spearheaded an effort to feed locals affected by the disaster, turning his namesake restaurant in the capital into a volunteer-run soup kitchen! He has been joined by famed Spanish-American chef, Jose Andres! Andres and Enrique have teamed up and plan to continue serving free food at San Juan’s La Placita market and to collaborate with food truck owners delivering meals to local hospitals and isolated neighborhoods. We joined them by making a donation for $1,000 to World Central Kitchen! Our donation will literally go to feed those hungry today. Thank you for making this possible by your care for others at our parish. Our love extends beyond our doors and borders, just like the love of God!
⚡️ Next Sunday:: A “Flash Francis Sale”!?? Buy a St. Francis, Help Us Leave Behind Our Debt!
If you were kind enough to give toward our Friary Rectory Fund, we are grateful! AND if you did not get your statue, please see anyone on staff and pick one up! Also, the artist, Timothy Schmalz, sent us a great gift! 50 MORE statues to help us get rid of our remaining debt, so we are holding a ‘Flash St Francis Sale” next Week! The sale will be “50 for 50” so bring a mime donation of $50 and walk away with a statue and the assurance you helped make us stronger! Thank you to Timothy and his crew!
