💵 And Don’t Forget to Bring Your Mary Money?!

The Procession for Our Blessed Mother is rooted in the Italian-American Religious Festival that our pastor, Monsignor Jim, grew up with in “Little Italy”! A large  Statue of Mary is carried out of Saint Miriam and placed on a beautifully decorated cart. Little girls carry flowers, or hold ribbons dangling from the statue, and our youngest of boys and men to help, will move the wooden cart through the campus where the faithful pin money. In Father’s day as a young boy, the statue went for blocks around the church’s neighborhood and the faithful painted their curbs white and blue in honor of the Blessed Mother! Then, for an offering to help the parish, the priest blessed every home as he passed by! In days past, the priests of national parishes (those defied by a specific ethnic heritage like German, or Polish, etc.) soon realized that such practices were a valuable resource. If parishioners did not fill the collection plate, they made up for it by lighting candies in the chapels, and the church, which sponsored processions, could reap their harvest of donations and create enthusiasm, too! So, we continue this beautiful tradition on Sunday! Bring some loose bills, say a prayer to Mary as you pin the donation to her flowing ribbons,  and watch us we grow with excitement and keep an old tradition alive and well!

💒 Did You Know We Live by a Covenant?

At Saint Miriam, we honor all that we built by living and honoring The Saint Miriam Covenant. We do so because parishes thrive in a healthy atmosphere, and close down by being torn down by gossip. Our Covenant is located by Clicking Here as a refresher to those who desire to bring rumor and innuendo to the parish due to simple things that happen within all parishes, like our recent staff changes, or expansion. We remind you to read, live by, honor it. We also remind that our pastor has an open door policy and in the past 5 years only 4 parishioners have ever used to to ask questions and get fact. Email him here for your appointment, but if you feel talking in circles is helpful, there are other parishes that welcome that kind of destruction. We do not at Saint Miriam. We are better than that; so is our God and all that He has given to us by the sacrifice of the many who labor.

💒 A Good Parish Of Great People!

How do folks feel about us? How do they care for others? This past week, Rick Freed made a three month donation to cover Memorial Masses for Diamond Williams, knowing that her family forgot her. And then, Pam and Bill sent a note that is worth sharing when they said, “This Lent season has been a time of several “changing/growing” experiences for me at Saint Miriam and it all started with that first step through the door and that first hug!”  We are what we teach; we will live what we preach! Welcome home!

📿A Saint Miriam Novena: Sign Up Today to Pray!

A Novena is a form of worship within the greater Catholic Church consisting of special prayers, or services, on nine successive days. A Novena to St. Miriam was written by Mr. Eric Healy, Holy Infant Parish, on the occasion of the Baptism of his daughter, Abigail Miriam Healy. 🗣 Evangelism Comes to Saint Miriam this Lent: First of Two Gatherings is Today!

Since Pope John Paul II called the Church to a new “horizon of evangelization,” there has been increased interest in the mission of evangelization. Parishes and dioceses throughout the United States have active evangelization teams and offices of evangelization. Yet, as central as evangelization is to the mission and life of the Church, there is still reluctance on the part of many Catholics to become involved in it. Why? Simple: Catholics Don’t Do that! Well, we were actually once a mission parish and look at what we’ve become together? So, we would like to begin with a brief introduction to evangelism – spreading the word – about us and the Old Catholic Church and then set ourselves up for even greater success in the three main areas. We will begin on Sunday, March 26th, at 12:00pm with  our opening topic, “How to Be One Hell of a Catholic Evangelist”!
